Harvest 2010

January 30, 2011

We harvested on Saturday October 9th. Beautiful weather and lots of fun with friends. Although we had a disappointing fruit yield for our estate wine, we crushed an additional 1/2 ton of beautiful Santa Cruz Mountains Pinot Noir fruit from the Corralitos area.

We added 40 vines to the vineyard … pictured is Edible Landscape Crew

Harvest 2009

October 21, 2009

Another fun harvest under the belt – small but good? 25% Brix and only about a third of the tonage from the prior year. Oh well, it will be an exclusive vintage, mabye we will call it Screaming GUFO…

GUFO Wins Gold

September 8, 2008

Family and Friends,

We wanted to share some very exciting news with you GUFO lovers.  It is with much pleasure (and a little pride!) that we announce that our

2007 GUFO Pinot Noir is a Gold Medal and First Place Award Winner in the Amateur Winemaker Competition at the 2008 Santa Cruz County Fair!

With 11 Pinot Noir entries among a total of 122 competitors, GUFO 2007 did very well, achieving high marks in all categories.  It is especially gratifying to know that our wine has been recognized for the “labor of love” that it is.

On the Fourth of July we bottled our second vintage, Il Matrimonio.  We had many friends and family join us for a day of fun.  The vintage in named in honor of our 30th wedding anniversary.

Racking #1 2007 Vintage

January 15, 2008

Today my wife, Susie, and I racked our 2007 Pinot for the first time.  It cleaned up very nice, but I now have used up all my topping wine.  I am going to have to buy another 3-5 gallons to ride-out the rest of the oak aging period.

I wished I had tasted the wine today, but I simply was too busy with the task at hand and it was too early in the day.

Christmas Day 2007

December 26, 2007

The wine still has a bit of an effervescent quality about it.  The color, smell and flavor are a-ok…. it is my hope that once we rack the wine in January and let it sit until the summer is will mello beautifully.
